In the ACT Supreme Court on December 17, Shakira May Adams was handed a 14-year jail sentence with a nine-year non-parole period.

The incident occurred in May 2022, when Adams was driving a stolen car on the wrong side of the road at high speed while on drugs on Hindmarsh Drive, when she hit McLuckie head on.

Chief Justice Lucy McCallum said Adams’ had put others at risk ”almost every second” and currently poses ”a significant danger to society”.

McLuckie’s father Tom spoke outside the court after the verdict, saying there are ”no winners in this situation”.

Adams will be eligible for release in 2034, but Chief Justice McCallum said in court, there was ”no guarantee of release”.
