The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners is calling on Canberrans to get their annual flu shot, with nearly 25-thousand cases across the country already recorded.

While recorded cases last year were high, vaccination numbers were low, with just 60 per cent of over 60’s booked in for their shot.

There were 502,972 lab-confirmed flu cases in 2025, with the Australian Bureau of Statistics recording over 17-hundred deaths.

RACGP President Dr Michael Wright says the high number of cases likely contributed to a surge in demand on our hospitals.
