A new political party has been announced for Canberra, with the daughter of former Liberal Chief Minister Kate Carnell, leading the party.

In a Capital Radio News exclusive, Clare Carnell confirmed her new party is named The Civics Party.

Ms Carnell says the party is trying to change the relationship between people and political parties.

“Civics is about citizens. It’s the citizens party,” Ms Carnell says.

“It’s about participation, representation and people having a different relationship with politics than what we’re currently seeing.”

Ms Carnell was a candidate for Independents for Canberra in the last territory election, but stepped down five months before due to poor health.
