Garbage truck drivers hold out for better pay offer

The employer of garbage truck drivers in the ACT claims they’re among the highest paid in the country, as further strike action looms.

Drivers have walked off the job for a third straight week, as they fight for a 4 per cent pay rise each year for the next three years.

Employer Suez claims the workers are already earning up to 10 per hour more than their interstate counterparts – with a base hourly rate of more than 37 dollars an hour.

The company will meet with the Transport Workers Union on Monday for further discussions.

Meanwhile, a temporary drop-off site is now open on Phillip Avenue, near the old Ainslie Transfer Station, for inner north and south residents who missed out on having their rubbish collected yesterday.
