Revealed in a report by local recruitment firm HorizonOne, the data shows the ACT has seen an increase of 1.4% in unemployment since the end of 2024.
The shift from 3 to 4.4% is the largest jump in the nation, with the territory also recording the largest national decline in job advertisements, 5% more than national figures.
HorizonOne’s data also shows while advertised roles with their agency have increased, the number of shortlist candidates shrunk by nearly 50%.
The report highlights the Public Services insourcing agenda and increase in contractor hires as reasons for the decline, but cites there is demand in specialised areas including aged care, hospitality, and defence.
