Police “Failure” Found in Review

A new review has found a failure in the investigation of sexual offences in the A.C.T.

The probe was led by former Victorian Police Commissioner CHRISTINE NIXON.

The review looked at nearly 700 reports – between July 2020 and December 2021, which found police viewed sexual offences as isolated incidents.. and there was a lack of understanding about the pattern of domestic and family violence.

As a result, complainants were more likely to withdraw their case in the A.C.T. than in other jurisdiction.

The territory’s chief police officer SCOTT LEE has conceded, he regrets victim survivors in Canberra had been let down by the system… and is promising change.
