The ACT Greens’ bid for a proper plan for Canberra’s public transport system has been blocked in the Legislative Assembly.

Labor and the Liberals joined forces to vote down the motion yesterday, introduced by Andrew Braddock, who called for an increase in electric buses and a proper plan and fund toward the light rail network.

Mr Braddock says it’s disappointing but not surprising.

“”Labor says there’s no money in the budget, but that’s simply not true. This was a deliberate choice to prioritise road duplications and subsidies for the horse racing industry over essential public transport,” Mr Braddock says.

“Canberra deserves better than delayed light rail and under-funded buses.”

The Greens are leading a petition to Federal Parliament, calling for increased support to help fund the project and return the approval process to its original timeline.
