Meth and cocaine use in the territory has surged towards record highs, according to the latest wastewater analysis by the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission.

The latest analysis revealed meth consumption in Australia reached the highest levels recorded since the program started in 2016, with both capital cities and regional areas exceeding all previous annual averages.

Here in Canberra, there was a 30 per-cent increase in consumption.

Meanwhile, rates of cocaine use in the territory soared by 21 per-cent, with Canberra consuming 10 doses per 1000 people on an average day.

There was however a decrease in consumption of heroin in the ACT, falling by 15 per-cent, the only jurisdiction in the entire country to record a reduction in use.
