New housing changes, tax reforms and cost of living measures begin today to support Canberrans, after this year’s ACT budget.

From today, Canberra’s first home buyers no longer pay stamp duty.

The reform is part of a broader package to make home ownership more achievable for locals, with pensioners also now receiving a full stamp duty remission when downsizing.

The Government’s landmark Missing Middle Housing Reforms also commence today, while the codified Lease Variation Change will be halved for eligible missing middle housing developments to encourage builders to take up the reforms.

Other cost of living measures starting today include the sustainable household scheme loan cap being expanded to $20,000 and an extra month of fuel excise cuts.
