The Territory’s branch of the Education Union is raising concern saying a lack of casuals is putting teachers in danger, as no one can cover teacher absences, leading to higher class size numbers.

In a submission to the Budget, it was revealed 1,000 work safety incidents were reported at schools in February and March.

AEU ACT Senior Industrial Officer Patrick Judge says it puts a real strain on teachers and any form of violence in schools needs to be taken seriously.
