A 31 year old Canberra man has been sentenced to 30 years behind bars in the ACT Supreme court for the murder of his colleague at the Canberra Zoo in December 2023.

Jude Wijesinghe stabbed Tshewang Choden fourteen times after she had repeatedly rejected his advances. Wijesinghe pleaded guilty in July this year.

Chief Justice Lucy McCallum described it as murderous-violence by a jealous man, and said the fact the murder was premeditated, increased the seriousness of the crime but the Chief Justice stopped short of imposing a life sentence, jailing Wijesinghe for 30 years.

Wijesinghe won’t be eligible for parole until 2043.
