The community is being advised of an extreme blue green algae alert in place at the Central Basin and West Basin at Lake Burley Griffin.

Swimming, bathing or activities which have a risk of swallowing water or having the face wet by spray are not permitted in these areas.

People engaged in secondary contact recreation activities, like canoeing and rowing, in these areas should be careful to limit any water exposure and should shower immediately after contact with the water.

A medium blue green algae alert is in place for Weston Park East, with all other areas of the lake open.

The public is being reminded that animals should not swim or drink lake water in areas where there are algal scums.

The National Capital Authority will continue to monitor lake water quality and provide updates when available.
