Canberrans are being encouraged to look after their health and wellbeing this winter, starting with getting a flu vaccination before the expected increase in respiratory illnesses over winter.
Acting ACT Chief Health Officer Dr Maggie Wilson said getting vaccinated now can help protect people from serious respiratory illness in the months ahead.
“Respiratory viruses are more than just bad colds – they can be far more serious and lead to hospitalisation and even death,” Dr Wilson said.
“The peak period for influenza is typically June to September, so now is a good time to get your influenza vaccination if you haven’t already.”
Influenza, RSV and COVID-19 vaccines are available from general practices and a range of pharmacies around Canberra.
