Canberra has been ranked as the world’s 8th smartest city in 2026 out of 148 cities worldwide.
The World Competitiveness Center’s Smart City Index has been published for the year, which measures economic and technological aspects of smart cities and factors like quality of life, environment and inclusiveness.
Canberra came in as the 8th smartest city out of 148, holding it’s spot from last year.
The Index results draw almost entirely on survey responses, with affordable housing being the most urgent issue for respondents in the ACT, followed by health services and public transport.
The top spot went to Zurich, with Oslo and Geneva coming in second and third.
