Hospitality Industry Fears Economic Impact From Pandemic

A number of businesses across the ACT might not re-open following the lockdown, as the economic impact is felt in the Territory.

Some businesses have made the decision to stay closed until restrictions are eased further, citing that it’s not economically viable to open up under the current rules.

Australian Hotels Association ACT General Manager Anthony Brierly says a number of issues relating to business aren’t being considered.

“That’s the frustration,” Brierly said.

“This is an economic crisis as well, and decisions aren’t being made by business and aren’t being made by people who are sympathetic to the plight of business.

“Today some people are enthusiastic about lockdown ending, but for the hospitality industry this is the day the proverbial excrement starts to hits the fan.”
