ACT Road Policing officers targeted drivers both in Canberra and Jervis Bay across the ANZAC Day long weekend.

In Canberra, 74 infringement notices and 34 cautions were issued between Friday and Monday.

In Jervis Bay, ACT Road Policing officers worked with local officers to conduct targeted road safety operations that saw:

• 33 drivers subjected to random drug screening tests with four drivers returning positive roadside tests.
• Nearly 1000 drivers subjected to random alcohol screening tests with two drivers returning positive breath tests.
• 10 vehicles were issued defect notices for non-compliant vehicle modifications or being unsafely maintained;
• 27 traffic infringement notices were issued to drivers for speeding.

Last night, just before midnight, a 47 year old male driver in Canberra returned a positive roadside test for alcohol, blowing more than three times the legal limit.

Officers conducted further checks, which revealed that the driver’s licence was suspended due to an unpaid court fine.

The man’s ACT drivers licence has been suspended for 90 days and he will appear in court at a later date.
