The ACT Government is seeking early feedback to help shape a regulatory approach to help Canberra go electric and transition away from fossil fuel gas.

A discussion paper has been released on the Everyday Climate Choices website outlining potential options to support the transition, including improving consumer information, strengthening rental standards and limiting new gas appliance installations.

Minister for Climate Change, Environment, Energy and Water Suzanne Orr said early feedback will help shape a draft regulatory framework and guide future community consultation.

“The ACT has already made strong progress in transitioning away from gas, but there is more to do to support households and businesses, particularly renters and low-income households, through this change,” Minister Orr said.

“We want to help support the uptake of electric appliances while supporting Canberrans to choose options backed by cheaper, 100% renewable energy. 

This work delivers on the ACT’s Integrated Energy Plan 2024-30 – our strategic roadmap for transitioning away from fossil fuel gas and electrifying our city.
