Every member of the Legislative Assembly’s Environment and Planning Committee has endorsed the Missing Middle Housing Reforms.
The news has also been welcomed from various figures in the community.
The reforms will legalise townhouses, terraces, low rise apartments and other forms of medium density housing throughout Canberra.
Housing advocacy group, Greater Canberra, has called on the government to finalise as soon as possible.
It also welcomed the Committee’s various recommendations towards continuous monitoring, evaluation and improvement of the reforms.
ACT Greens Deputy Leader Jo Clay says they have been long advocating for an increase in density, and they are pleased to see the Government adopt them in principle.
Ms Clay says the 18 recommendations tabled prove its possible to build more homes in existing suburbs while protecting the environment.
Peter Cain MLA meanwhile emphasised that the Government now needs to focus on other practical barriers to Missing Middle feasibility.
