A bar in the CBD was temporarily shut down by police yesterday in regards to hate imagery.

Yesterday afternoon, ACT Police officers attended Dissent Bar and Cafe in Garema Place, after receiving a complaint that the venue was displaying hate imagery.

Officers spoke with the owner to remove five posters displaying political figures, such as the US President and Israeli Prime Minister, dressed in Nazi uniforms.

The owner declined to remove the posters, with a crime scene established.

Police removed the five posters, and will be considered under recently enacted Commonwealth legislation regarding hate symbols

Patrons of the popular venue have taken to social media, arguing that the posters are satirical, and were developed as parody art.

Enquires into the matter remain ongoing.
