
A navigation system invented at the Australian National University has been chosen by Sydney-based defence innovator Mission Systems to supply their undersea drones.
Canberra-based start-up Forge Photonics will supply fibre optic gyroscopes for vehicles referred to as “yellow submarines” that will not be reliant on GPS or acoustic transmissions.
The tech dramatically reduces the chance of detection and makes it cheaper than other guidance systems.
It was originally created to drive down the cost of navigation systems for self-driving cars, ships and defence platforms.
