Rediscovering Music: Discovering the Tenor
September 19 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
Event Navigation
Rediscovering Music is back this month, with sessions exploring the range and timbre of the tenor voice. This free community program supported by Better Hearing Australia Canberra is for anyone with hearing loss who would like to learn to reconnect with music, especially people using hearing aids and cochlear implants. Led by audiologist and CSO bassoonist Kristen Sutcliffe, these sessions feature performances and demonstrations by tenor Michael Martin, with his son Liam on piano.
Canberra-born Michael Martin started singing solos as a boy soprano at church at the age of 7. He went on to win the Sydney Morning Herald Aria competition while studying with Ron Maconagie, and travelled to Italy to study with the great tenor Carlo Bergonzi. Michael then returned to Australia as a principal guest artist with the Australian Opera for 18 years. Having been a member of the Canberra Children’s Choir, learned singing with Patricia Davey, performed as a Tenor “Entertainer 79” at the Southern Cross club and starred in several Canberra Philharmonic productions in the 80’s, Michael now resides in Canberra and teaches singing.
