Wanted – Men to Sing out loud
“We’re looking for men to join us in song in the Canberra Men’s Choir” says Richard Lamont, President of the Canberra Men’s Choir.
“We always welcome newcomers,” says Richard. “We will have an Open Night on Monday 30 January 2023 in the auditorium of the Harmonie German Club, 49 Jerrabomberra Avenue, Narrabundah, ACT from 7.30 – 9.00 p.m. This will be an opportunity for interested men to come along and get to know the choir, and hopefully join up”.
The Canberra Men’s Choir has been active in the Canberra community since it was established in 1986. It is a non-audition choir that welcomes all men who enjoy singing, regardless of their musical experience or ability. Many of its members’ first experience with singing was when they joined. The group’s current 20 members are aged from their twenties to the 90s.
“The choir’s repertoire is chosen to showcase the unique sound of the male singing voice”, says Richard. “We sing in a variety of styles, including opera, jazz and popular music, most often in four-part harmony.”
The choir holds concerts and performs regularly at community events in the Canberra region.
The choir’s Musical Director is Leanne McKean. Leanne is an experienced conductor who has worked with a variety of community, school and chamber choirs in Canberra and in the United Kingdom. She has been leading the choir since 2016.
“It’s great that the choir is back singing together after the disruption of COVID 19”, says Leanne. “We are looking forward to welcoming Canberra men at our Open Night on 30 January”.
