AUSSIE: Posters by Peter Drew

Peter Drew’s iconic poster series has appeared in streets and laneways across Australia since 2016. It features archival photos of people who sought exemption from the dictation test that applied to non-British migrants entering Australia. They were people who had been born in Australia or who had lived here for many years, who wanted to travel overseas, and who feared being refused entry on their return.

This exhibition reveals the stories behind the faces on the posters and asks us to reconsider what it means to be an Aussie.
