One Arrested After Lobby Restaurant Dispute Comes To A Head

Category: Capital Radio News

It's understood the Lobby Restaurant next to Old Parliament House was due to be sold before Indigenous activists began occupying it this week.

Members of the nearby Aboriginal Tent Embassy started occupying the building on Sunday, claiming sovereign ownership and seeking 7-million dollars in back payments.

Earlier negotiations between the National Capital Authority and the group failed to settle the dispute, and ACT Policing moved yesterday and negotiated a peaceful end to the stand-off.

One remaining man who refused to leave was arrested and charged with failing to leave Commonwealth premises when directed.

He was later released on bail and will face court next month.
