Andrew Barr threatens to cap petrol prices

Category: Capital Radio News

The ACT government is threatening to intervene and cap fuel prices if petrol doesn't fall below a dollar a litre by the end of the week.

The global coronavirus pandemic has lead to an over-supply of oil, causing the price of petrol to plummet in other parts of Australia.

Chief Minister Andrew Barr has already put fuel retailers on notice and is now threatening to use legislation under the Fair Trading Act to intervene.

He says work's being done to allow legislative enforcement to occur on Friday.
