Religious Canberrans exempt from wearing bicycle helmets

Category: Capital Radio News

A new law in the ACT will allow Canberrans who wear religious headwear to be exempt from mandatory helmet laws.

The legislation states members of religious groups who wear a traditional headdress will no longer be required to wear a helmet while riding a bicycle or a personal mobility device.

Helmet laws will remain in place for all other cyclists and there is no exemption for motorcycle riders.
