ACT Rural Fire Service Staff and Volunteers are being told not to activate their sirens and warning lights when responding to emergencies.

ACT RFS Chief Officer Joe Murphy has told the Canberra Times he made the decision for safety reasons.

The decision has been met with fierce opposition from ACT RFS Brigades, with crews forced to wait in traffic, thereby slowing response times.
