Braidwood Fire Upgraded to Emergency Warning again

Current Situation

  • The fire is burning to the west of Braidwood.
  • The fire is spreading in multiple directions.
  • The fire is burning in a northerly direction towards the Kings Highway. Crews are working to slow the spread of the fire in this area.
  • The fire is also spreading in a south-easterly direction and has crossed the Cooma Road in the Elrington area.


  • If you are in the area of Mount Elrington or Wallaces Gap, seek shelter as the fire approaches. Protect yourself from the heat of the fire.
  • If you are in the area along the Kings Highway, between the Shoalhaven River and Black Sally Lane, and your plan is to leave or you are not prepared, leave now towards Braidwood.
  • If you are in the area of Black Sally Lane or Dawsons Lane, north of Braidwood, monitor conditions. Activate your bush fire survival plan and know what you will do if the fire threatens.
  • If you are in the area of Jembaicumbene Creek, Bendoura, Majors Creek or Reidsdale, monitor conditions. Activate your bush fire survival plan and know what you will do if the fire threatens.
  • If you are in the area of Forbes Creek Road, Old Mill Road, Butmaroo, the south of Watsons Road, Tally Ho Road, south of Foxes Elbow Road and Colombo Road, fire is burning in your area. Continue to monitor conditions and follow advice of firefighters. Know what you will do as fire approaches your home.
  • If you are in the area of Farringdon, Harolds Cross, Hoskingtown, Foxs Elbow, Manar Road, Warri south of the Kings Highway or Braidwood, continue to monitor the situation. Act now to protect stock and animals.
  • If you are in the area of Little Bombay Road, Bombay Road, Sandholes Road, Gilbert Lane and Jinglemoney Road, be aware of damaged trees. Report unattended fires to Triple Zero.
  • Kings Highway is closed to the northwest of Braidwood, between Deloraine Lane and Mayfield Road.
  • Tallaganda National Park, State Conservation Area and State Forest are closed. All roads in the area including Mulloon Fire Trail and Lowden Road are closed.

If you are threatened by fire

  • Do not be in the path of the fire.
  • Protect yourself from the heat of the fire. Wear protective clothing and footwear. Cover all exposed skin.
  • If the fire impacts, seek shelter in a solid structure to protect yourself from the heat of the fire.
  • If your life is at risk, call Triple Zero (000).

  • Large animals and companion animals can be taken to Bungendore and Braidwood Showgrounds.
  • A Neighbourhood Safer Place is at Ryrie Park, Corner of Wilson Street and Wallace Street, Braidwood and Majors Creek Recreation Grounds, Hill Street, Majors Creek. A Neighbourhood Safer Place is a place of last resort.

  • Stay up to date on bush fires in your area by checking the NSW RFS website, listening to your local radio station, or by calling the NSW RFS Bush Fire Information Line on 1800 679 737.
  • For information on road closures, check Live Traffic NSW. Roads may be closed without warning.
  • Monitor weather conditions and weather warnings at Bureau of Meteorology.
